Empty Nest Syndrome

Carving a labyrinth around her home
She searches for priceless golden crumbs
Dropped by little hands.
She searches for forgotten toys,
Mismatched socks, superhero capes,
Memories fading like paper art
Her grown children have left.
She circles around the noiseless kitchen
Frantically searching for the misplaced
Time she could not have lost,
Searching for meaning,
Searching for strings,
Fragments of things
To keep her heart
Bound together,
To bind her empty nest together.
